Austin Kap

Fitness changed my life — not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. I know what it feels like to go from someone who struggled to stay consistent to someone who genuinely can't imagine a life without this work. My mission is to help you find that same relationship with your health, and then build on it in a way that's real, sustainable, and completely yours.

I don't believe in cookie-cutter programs or one-size-fits-all advice. I believe in showing up fully for the person in front of me — learning who you are, what drives you, and what's actually standing in your way — and then building something around that. If you're ready to do the work, I'm ready to do it with you.

My Mission

Physical activity draws us into the present moment. It compels us to connect with our bodies, recognize what we're feeling, and make deliberate decisions about how to proceed. As Socrates advised, 'Know thyself'—and fitness provides one of the most powerful paths to developing this self-knowledge.

My mission is simple, to help you learn how to optimize your fitness performance....and then get there. We don't have to make it complicated, but my clients come to me for BOTH the learning and the doing, I take it very much to heart, and I love working with clients that way.

Coaching is a lifelong pursuit for me, and its an honor to work with clients who do what it takes to get to the next level.

Story
Marcus T.
Hoboken, NJ

"I came to Austin as a CrossFit athlete who had plateaued hard. I'd been training on my own for three years and couldn't figure out why my performance wasn't improving. Within the first few weeks of working with Coach Kap, he identified gaps in my programming I never would have caught myself — my aerobic base was nowhere near where it needed to be, and my mobility was quietly limiting everything. A year later, I competed at my first Sanctional qualifier and finished in the top 20% of my region. What Austin brings isn't just a good program — it's a completely different level of attention. He actually knows me as an athlete."

My Fitness & Wellness History

I grew up in Staten Island, NY, and I was not always the athlete I am today. As a kid, I was small, inconsistent, and honestly pretty fragile. A challenge from some friends in college — "if you can stick with the gym for a month, we'll be impressed" — started everything. I didn't just stick with it. I fell in love with it, and I haven't stopped since.

From there, my path took a lot of turns — all of which made me a better coach. I played tennis competitively through college. I became a certified yoga teacher, logging over 1,000 hours of teaching. I ran with the New York Roadrunners' Team for Kids program, coaching underserved youth in New York City. I found CrossFit and discovered a community-driven side of fitness I'd never experienced in a weight room. My pursuit of CrossFit led me to significantly deepen my knowledge of Olympic weightlifting — including annual training under Greg Everett at Catalyst Athletics, home of the USA Weightlifting National Champion team and one of the most respected weightlifting programs in the country.

After several years in corporate America — working in HR in the travel industry — COVID became the catalyst to make the leap I knew I needed to make. I went all-in on coaching, completed my OPEX Coaching Certificate Program (CCP), and haven't looked back. I served as a Strength and Conditioning coach at the College of Staten Island for three years, and I now coach 35+ clients across in-person and remote formats — including athletes in multiple countries and twice-yearly international training camps for competitive CrossFit athletes.

I'm also an OPEX Ambassador and a contributing instructor on LearnRx, where I developed a comprehensive mobility course that bridges yoga principles with functional fitness programming.

Certifications: OPEX CCP (Ambassador), Active Life Immersion Graduate, The Ready State Certified Mobility Coach, ERYT-200 Yoga Teacher (1,000+ teaching hours)

What My Clients Should Expect from Me As Their Coach:

The first thing I'll tell you is this: I spend a lot of time getting to know you before we ever talk about training. I do a 60–90 minute initial consultation with every new client because I've learned that the more I understand about who you are — your history, your lifestyle, what's worked, what hasn't — the better everything that follows will be. That investment pays off every single time.

What you'll get from me is a program that's genuinely built for you, consistent communication, weekly check-ins, and a coach who pays attention. I use video feedback when it's useful, adjust programming in real time when life happens, and treat every client — whether you're training in person or on the other side of the world — like they're the only one on my roster.

I bring a lot to the table: CrossFit, yoga, mobility, strength and conditioning, running, endurance. But more than any specific modality, what I bring is genuine care and a relentless curiosity about how to help you improve. I love this work. Year over year, I fall more in love with it — and that shows up in how I coach.

Story
Jenna R. — Remote Client
Chicago, IL

"I was nervous about remote coaching — I didn't think it could feel personal enough. Austin completely proved me wrong. From our very first call, I felt like he actually listened to everything I said and retained all of it. He built me a program that fit my schedule, my equipment, and my goals as someone who does CrossFit recreationally but also just wants to feel strong and healthy long-term. He checks in consistently, gives real feedback, and adjusts things without me even having to ask. I've worked with coaches before, but never one who made me feel this taken care of."

Why should you sign up?

Because you deserve a coach who treats you like an individual — not a template.

Whether you're a competitive CrossFit athlete who wants to finally put it all together, someone who's been training hard without seeing the results they want, or a person who's just ready to take their health seriously for the first time — I've worked with all of you, and I know how to help.
